National Hispanic GOP Group Calls for GOP Senators to Support the “Joaquin Luna” DREAM Act

Phoenix, AZ — Somos Republicans is the largest Hispanic Republican group in the nation that supports the DREAM Act. We would like to thank Senator Dick Durbin with regard to his concern for Joaquin Luna and other DREAM Act youth that are in similar situations, and his continued effort to pass the federal DREAM Act. We ask that Durbin not give up the good fight.

SOMOS REPUBLICANS would like to reach out to fellow Republican Senators in an effort to support Durbin’s effort to pass the DREAM Act.

Adam Bustos, President of SOMOS REPUBLICANS, states:

“I went to school with an American hero, Jose Francisco Jimenez who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Joaquin Luna reminds me of Jose Francisco Jimenez. Jimenez was born in Mexico City, Mexico, and he graduated from Santa Cruz Valley Union High School, Eloy, Arizona, in June 1968. He enlisted in the Marine Corps to fight for this great nation. While participating in action against the enemy south of Da Nang, Quang Nam Province, on August 28, 1969, he was killed in action. President Nixon took pride in presenting the MEDAL OF HONOR posthumously to Jimenez.

Both Luna and Jimenez were born in Mexico and died too young loving this country. Jimenez died a war hero, and Luna died never able to see his DREAM come true. The DREAM Act was denied to him. Many sacrifices were made by Latino veterans who were drafted and volunteered in numerous American wars. We ask that those sacrifices be remembered in support of the DREAM Act 2011.

Joaquin Luna could have been another American hero like Jimenez had the DREAM Act passed in December 2010. He was a hero to his family and those who loved him.”
